7 DAYS TOUR FROM OUARZAZATE TO THE SAHARA DESERT

DAY 1: OUARZAZATE – DRAA VALLEY – MERZOUGA DESERT – NIGHT IN NOMADIC TENTS

Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, your desert journey begins with a scenic drive toward the magnificent Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river. This vast oasis corridor stretches across arid landscapes, lined with date palms, fortified ksour, and earthen kasbahs that echo centuries of caravan trade.

Several panoramic stops allow you to appreciate the harmony between cultivated greenery and surrounding desert plateaus. After lunch in Nkob or Alnif, the journey continues toward Merzouga and the awe-inspiring dunes of Erg Chebbi.

At the edge of the dunes, you exchange your vehicle for camels and begin a tranquil trek into the desert. As the sun descends, the dunes transform into luminous shades of amber and crimson. Upon arrival at the camp, you settle into traditional nomadic tents woven from camel hair.

Dinner is served beneath an immense celestial canopy, followed by a peaceful evening immersed in desert silence.

DAY 2: MERZOUGA DESERT – NOMADIC FAMILIES – KHAMLIA VILLAGE – RETURN TO ERG CHEBBI

Before dawn, you may climb a dune to witness the sunrise—an extraordinary spectacle as the first light reshapes the desert’s contours.

After breakfast, embark on a 4×4 excursion around Erg Chebbi. Visit fossil-rich terrain near Tissardmine and panoramic viewpoints offering expansive views toward the Algerian frontier.

You will meet desert nomadic families and learn about their pastoral traditions and seasonal mobility. In Khamlia village, enjoy a live Gnawa music performance—an expressive spiritual tradition rooted in sub-Saharan heritage—while sharing mint tea.

Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight near the dunes.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA – RISSANI MARKET – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY

After breakfast, depart for Rissani, historic cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and former caravan crossroads. If your visit coincides with market days (Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday), explore the vibrant souk where livestock, spices, textiles, and dates are traded in an authentic atmosphere.

Continue to Erfoud for an optional visit to a fossil workshop before traveling through palm groves toward the Todra Gorges. Towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically to nearly 300 meters, forming one of Morocco’s most spectacular natural canyons.

After a walk through the gorge, proceed to the Dades Valley. En route, admire the remarkable “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Dinner and overnight in the Dades region.

DAY 4: DADES VALLEY – ROSE VALLEY – SKOURA – HIGH ATLAS – MARRAKECH

Following breakfast, enjoy a panoramic viewpoint over the Dades Valley before continuing along the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs.

Travel through the fragrant Valley of Roses and the lush Skoura palm grove. In Ouarzazate, you may visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah and the renowned film studios.

After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The dramatic ascent offers sweeping views of rugged peaks and terraced slopes. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon.

DAY 5: MARRAKECH – GUIDED CITY TOUR

Today is devoted to discovering Marrakech with a certified local guide. Explore Jemaa el-Fna Square, a vibrant theatrical stage of storytellers, musicians, and artisans.

Visit the Saadian Tombs, admire the exterior of the Koutoubia Mosque, and stroll through the Majorelle Gardens and Menara Gardens. Wander through the labyrinthine souks and, if desired, explore the historic Mellah district.

DAY 6: MARRAKECH – ESSAOUIRA – MARRAKECH

In Essaouira, explore the 18th-century ramparts, the Skala fortress, and the bustling fishing harbor. The UNESCO-listed medina is known for its refined woodcraft, silver jewelry, and artistic ambiance.

Enjoy fresh seafood by the ocean before returning to Marrakech in the late afternoon. Overnight in your riad.

DAY 7: marrakech – airport transfer

After breakfast, enjoy leisure time depending on your flight schedule. At the appointed time, transfer to Marrakech Airport for departure.
